    Bonsai In India

    Dear Friends

I like to share information about Bonsai in India. I also undergone special training from a Bonsai teacher who is also a horticulturist by profession and his experience in Bonsai was from 1960 s onwards.

He also teaches us the Indianizing of Bonsai ( growing Bonsai according to Indian Climatic conditions). With this knowledge I started my career in Bonsai from the year 2000 along with my Horticulture career.

    Eagerly awaiting for your participation.

    Regards
    Surya Narmada

    Dear Friend

As you said India is big and bestowed with various climatic condition we are able to see both tropical and temperate bonsai.

But my concentration on tropical bonsai.

There are some technical difference in growing bonsai under tropical and temperate condition.

The tropical plants are fast in growth and we have to concentrate much on maintaining the size.

Mostly we start with all types of Ficus.

    Regards
    Surya Narmada

Apart from this the art of Bonsai is used by the special children as a stress relieving agent and also builts their self confidence.

As an alternate to Pines we wil be using Casuarina in tropics.

The problem in India is that all the books you pick up on this topic are be foreigners and the only tree we can identify with are the ficus.

there are 3 books i am familiar with written by indian authors
Wonderworld of tropical bonsai by Jyothi and nikund parekh
    Bonsai by prof B.B Sharma
    Bonsai by S.C.Dey
These books give you a list of trees with botanical / local names
another thing is that unlike imported books which cost Rs 1000 to 2000 these books come under Rs 250
