My Rosemary Bonsai (Part II) - 2006/08/26 06:01
Here: http://www.pinerytree.com/ is the tree farm which produced the Rosemary Christmas tree I was given.
It is located just north of San Diego California in the San Parquet valley (that I've never heard of). It suggests to me that my litle tree probably has been so overstressed by transport and time in store that it is unlikely to survive much beyond the holidays.
They do this sort of tacitly thing exclusivelly (various sizes, I suppose). Trees they grow are those you have seen in supermarkets, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc. as desktop Chriustmas trees. The fatality rate must be amazing.
Some interesting trees: Aleppo Pine, Blue point juniper, Deodar cedar, Eldarica pine, Italian stone pine, Leyland cypress, Monterey pine, Rosemary.
They give quite good instructions for the care of each -- in and out of a pot -- after the holidasys, and caution clearly that these are NOT indoor plants.
The Eldarica pine (Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Southern Russia) sounds (and looks) like a nice bonsai candidate. I've never seen one. Blue point juniper also is good.
For those of you in the San Diego area, it might be worth a visit -- though I suspect they're wholesale only.
