Further << A nursery near me has several "Black Pussywillows" in three gal pots which there going to let go cheap ... I have never heard of these for bonsai, so i didn't leap on them. >>
The botanical name is Salix gracilidselineata 'Melanostachys.' It is hardy to Zone 4 or 5. Meanwhile they have beautiful ridiculously red flowers in February or March. I have heard of it entirely being used for bonsai. Give it a try. Central NY, Zone 5a, Sunset Zone 40 "If we see light at the end of the tunnel, It's the light of the smoothly oncoming train.
