What plant species is this? - 2008/07/16 23:10 My guess is Surinam Cherry? but I'm no expert, and it doesn't seem to be common around the bonsai sites.

Re:What plant species is this? - 2008/07/18 06:50 Well, even if you can't verify what it is, any ideas for what I can do to make it look better, you know, less like a bush that's in a tiny pot?

Re:What plant species is this? - 2008/07/19 03:13 I still am stumped on what type of tree you have it looks like my jasmine tree but i know it is not. you have a lot of trunks it is hard to say maybe an Informal Upright or Clump style even a Twin Trunk style, best thing to do it look at other bonsai photos and see what you like and what is close to looking like your tree..

Re:What plant species is this? - 2008/07/19 17:25 That is a very beautiful tree! I adore the multiple trunks. If it were my tree, I would focus on those three beautiful trunks, get them out of hiding and trim the foilage to a nice shape. After all the trimming it may not be as full as you like, but if you work with it, over time with pinching the ends it should encourage the branches to fill out instead of growing longer. LOL I'd love to trim that one up for you... Now I wanna go buy a new one! (last thing I need lol)

Re:What plant species is this? - 2008/07/19 22:41 I'm a little afraid of trimming it too drastically. Mostly cause I don't want to kill it, and I thought there are certain times during the year when you're supposed to trim different species.

Stop trimming one month before fall, you will be ok to trim now, start by only trimming off 3/4 of the leaves and branches at one time wait one 3 weeks then trim again, it is more like a hair cut to the tree, trimming tells the tree to grow more branches and leaves.

Re:What plant species is this? - 2009/05/02 04:40 I'm having truble finding out what my bonsai is. It might be a desert rose because the other bonsai it was with had pinkish-purple flowers and a bigger base. I cant get any pictures right now. It has green, shiny leaves and the trunk has green smooth, green bark and is more bumpy on the branches.
